Statement of the ANCYL on the accusation of Gender Based Violence in connection to Mdu Manana

7 August 2017

The ANCYL has learnt of an incident involving the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Training Hon Mduduzi Manana which is bizarre to say the least. The ANCYL is concerned about the accusation which involve cde Mduduzi Manana because it does not put the ANC in good light. We say this with a serious consideration that there are many other incidences which involves ANC leaders that has made it to the public domain.

We as the ANCYL are concerned about this matter, we believe it seeks to perpetrate what the organisation stands firmly against, Gender Based Violence. We in the movement should not only try to lead society by proclaiming it, but by acting in accordance with the hopes of all South Africans; a hope to achieve a better life and security for the vulnerable particularly women and children.

We condemn these incidences of violence against women, regardless of who is involved. The ANCYL is calling upon law enforcement agencies to act on this matter without fear and favour in order to establish what transpired. We further call on them to act upon concluding the investigations. We call on the ANC to act upon all cases of this nature which involve leaders, deployees and members of the ANC.
